Grado, the beach of the Punta Spin campsite. A wedding ring slips off in shallow water. A focused search on the marked spot: a few minutes and the ring is back where it belongs.
What happened
In shallow water a ring slides off unnoticed: cool water shrinks the fingers and one movement is enough. The seabed off Punta Spin is sandy and mobile, so the ring sinks quickly, but it stays in the area where it fell if nobody stirs the bottom.
How we searched
We had the spot marked against a fixed landmark on shore, defined a narrow strip of shallow water and swept the bottom in parallel lanes with an underwater metal detector. Recovery is done with a scoop that holds the gold and lets the sand through.
The find
The signal came after a few minutes: ring recovered and handed back to the owner on the same beach.
